The globally accepted Top Employer Award has been granted to the Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA). This is in acknowledgement of first-rate working conditions provided to employees like employee wellbeing consideration and unremitting expansion of aptitudes. An impressive feat considering the challenges that 2020 has brought with the pandemic.
VWSA is the biggest private employer in the entire Nelson Mandela Bay and they have to be credited for their instantaneous reaction to the pandemic. To ensure that sites were prepared for employees when they return, VWSA has installed signage and sanitisation, temperature checks at entrances and a new layout to ensure physical distancing.
VW has also received a Silver Quill award from the International Association of Business Communicators for their extensive international communications from March 2020. The reason for this was the fact that the VW team safeguarded and informed employees during the pandemic with more than 900 communiqués.
During the Covid-19 period, employees obtained medical and psychological care from the in-house Wellness Centre where 3 734 employees were tested for the virus before returning to work in January 2021.
“To receive the Top Employer certification for 10 consecutive years is a milestone, and a testament to our commitment to continuously improving our value proposition to our employees,” said Thabo Nkoane, Human Resources Director for VWSA. “I am proud to be part of an organisation that has been recognised consistently for its efforts to put people first, by building a culture of excellence and empowerment.”
