All good things come in 3

Taking responsibility for approximately a third of their sales, Mazda can be quite proud of their Mazda3, especially considering that over 6-million Mazda3’s have found homes and have been providing their buyers with satisfying kilometres. It’s obvious that Mazda will continue to upgrade this vehicle in order to keep the motion of success on the roll and I can confidently say that they have hit the nail smack-dab on the head, yet again.

The Concept

This fourth-generation 5-door hatchback is a compact vehicle that is perfect for the woman who finds the beauty in simplicity and quality (and who doesn’t pay a ridiculous amount of money for it). The Mazda 3 provides efficiency and versatility which is balanced between style and sophistication.

The Look

As with any of their other vehicles, the Mazda3 is a looker. The newest addition’s graceful styling is highlighted by flowlines, edging and sharp corners that have been ironed out to create an aggressively alluring vehicle. In the front, the vehicle oozes appeal with a black mesh grille that is complemented by an overhanging bonnet and skinny headlights. The LED headlights feature auto on/off, an adaptive front lighting system, a levelling feature and Daytime Running. In the rear, you will also find combination lights to finish this vehicle off. To highlight the vehicle, it rests comfortably on a set of 18-inch metallic alloys that provide the vehicle with a sporty road stance.

The Feel

The cabin has clearly been designed to have beauty in simplicity, hop in and you are instantly surrounded by a richness of minimalism and quality. With savvy features such as an enlarged display as well as head-up display (HUD), the cabin feels highly advanced and futuristic while the sunroof does wonders to open up the cabin and is sure to provide the family with many sunny adventures. Comfy and laid back continues to the rear with more than enough head, knee and legroom for all to enjoy. Although on the smaller side, the 295-litre boot is spacious enough to accommodate day to day and if packed correctly, even the holiday luggage.

The Features

The 8.8-inch MZD infotainment system is equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports and Bluetooth Connectivity. This allows you to play your favourite tunes through a 12 speaker BOSE sound system with an active subwoofer. There is also navigation, dual zone air Climate Control with rear vents, all round electric windows and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera to make every trip as comfortable and convenient as possible. For the safety of all passengers, the Mazda3 is equipped with an array of airbags, ABS, EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, Emergency Brake Assist, G-Vectoring Control Plus, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Hill Launch Assist. The Mazda3 also features smart-advanced keyless entry, push to start functionality, auto door lock, a super lock system, a burglar alarm system and an immobilizer as well as ISOFIX child seat anchorage.

The Drive

Fitted with a 2.0-litre engine, the Mazda3 pushes out 121kW of power and 213Nm of torque. It has a fuel consumption of 6.3-litres per 100km which is reasonable and thanks to smart technology such as stop-start functionality and let’s not forget the fact that it is not a turbo engine. There are other benefits to this as well- pull aways and takeovers might not be as spirited but on the other hand, you save plenty on fuel and the driving experience is of utmost refinement. The steering is adequately weighted to provide you with an accurate foot to the ground and the suspension works hard to soak up all the lumps and bumps to be found on the road. The roar of this beaut has been muted to further enhance the driving experience and I must say that handling is also child’s play with evident stability on the road and through corners which is all aided by a slick self-shifting six-speed transmission.
