Dynamite comes in small packages
One thing Hyundai is known for is offering trustworthy vehicles that are value for money, with impressive fuel efficiency numbers, fresh styling, and the characteristic reliable nature. The Grand i10 is the epitome of these things, and is definitely a car that should make it onto your shortlist if you’re looking for a convenient city runner that won’t let you down.
A compact hatch that will perfectly suit the active and on-the-go lifestyle of a student or young mom. Five doors mean that ferrying friends around town would be more than doable too (if they pay their cut in petrol, of course and don’t mind being a little cramped at the back). The Grand i10 is perfect for the mall parking lot and won’t be eating into your budget with heavy fuel bills every month!
Small and stylish, the Grand i10 has a very pleasing look. Designers made sure to keep things smooth and curvy without adding gaudy touches, and the overall look is one of modern yet minimalist lines. It rides on 14-inch alloy wheels, and gives this hatch an adorable slightly assertive stance on the road while the chrome hexagon-design grille emphasizes the compact aspect of the vehicle with a sleek finish. The charming appearance of the car is finished with subtle body lines, petit wheel arches and a cheeky rear spoiler. Halogen headlights completes the design with bright illumination.
The interior has a practical feel to it, thanks to a polyurethane steering wheel with tilt adjustment, a vinyl gear lever, and high-grade cloth upholstery. For such a petit vehicle, the cabin is quite spacious, and even taller passengers will be happy up front. The back seat is a little less accommodating, but is ideal for kids. There’s also a 256-litre boot for your weekly shopping. Fold the split rears seats and you will find an impressive 1 202 litres of space. Sitting behind the wheel is also a comfortable position for the driver, with optimal visibility all around and everything you need just within reach. The Grand i10 is designed to make your life easier, and so it’s uncluttered and straight-forward. We love it.
The touchscreen infotainment system includes a four-speaker radio, Bluetooth Connectivity, Apple CarPlay and USB ports, which are accessible from intuitive steering wheel controls. Hyundai recognises that safety is not reserved for expensive luxury cars, and for this reason, the Korean-based engineers pulled out all the stops when it came to safety features and have included ABS, EBD, driver as well as co-driver airbags, an impact sensing door unlock and a transponder immobiliser into their trendy, little hatch. The vehicle’s body has also been strengthened with crumple zones, side impact protection beams, and has a Uni-body construction for additional safety. Comfort features to make your life easier include air conditioning, remote central locking, standard keyless entry, as well as front and rear electric windows. An additional feature is the nifty anti-bacterial pollen filter that will be highly appreciated during seasons changing – something moms will undoubtedly appreciate.
For such a small car, the 1.0-litre petrol engine that cranks out 48 kW of power and 94 Nm of torque, seems appropriate. It isn’t all that mighty, but the little car is light and small, and the design goals dictate reliability and fuel efficiency as first prize – in which case, the chosen powertrain is ideal. An impressive 5.4-litre per 100 km fuel efficiency figure is claimed by Hyundai, which will surely save you from regularly forking out cash to fill up. The five-speed manual transmission is smooth and the steering is direct, there’s nothing easier than pointing this little car in the direction you want to go, and allowing it to take you there.
