A grand city trotter
In our current economic crisis, people are opting for more affordable options when searching for their next set of wheels. This doesn’t mean they have to compromise on quality and build, however. The Grand i10 is a great example of a modestly budgeted vehicle with a worthy backbone. It’s a small car with big value and that is why this tiny Korean has seen so much success in South Africa.
The i10 is flexible and in my opinion, suitable for just about any singleton- a student, single mom of one or two or even a senior who is ready to let down her hair and enjoy the ride. It’s fitted with all the basics from cushy seats to the savvy infotainment system to give you a genuine experience in the vehicle. I think it will also charm many with its modest style and dependable personality- it is truly, in every sense of the phrase, a good buy.
The Grand i10 has an endearing look to it. It reminds me of a fierce little kitten that thinks it has a rumbly growl that will intimidate predators but it’s actually anything but a mighty meow. Rather it’s co-worthy and makes you just want to pull it closer and pet it. You obviously can’t pet the i10, or I mean you can but I wouldn’t recommend you do it in public, you will certainly get a few side-eyes, but it has the same ‘intimidating’ features as the kitty with its diminutive stance and slopy roofline. In terms of lights, the front has LED Daytime Running heads and a bonus set of fog lights encased in sporty black claddings. A shiny grille and angular flowlines provide it with a more confident approach that will have it blend in seamlessly in the city.
The cabin is clearly well put together and practical with a trendy instrument cluster and clean dashboard. The leather look seats are spongey and it will be easy to wipe away cool drink spills or mud smears. This itsy-bitsy vehicle isn’t teensy-weensy inside in the least. Hyundai has done some clever designing to have the cabin feel anything but cramped and cluttered. Taller folks can forget the (excuse the pun) headache of always bumping their head in the Grand i10 as there is plenty of headroom and a decent amount for their knobby knees and stretched toes as well.
When it comes to budget vehicles, specs are usually the first out of the window, this is to cut costs and provide customers with many other satisfactions. The Hyundai Grand i10 follows in the footsteps and has juuust enough and nothing more added into the mix. With this Grand i10, you get air conditioning , all-round electric windows, Rear Park Distance Control, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD. The infotainment system has all the latest technologies like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth Connectivity and USB for a pleasurable audio experience and you can also take advantage of the steering wheel controls.
The 1.2-litre engine might be small but it surely is spirited. It can produce 61kW of power and 114Nm of torque, what more do you need from a daily commuter? Maybe a likeable fuel consumption? Well, it has that as well and with a 5.9-litres per 100km usage you will be smiling all the way to the petrol station. Okay, what about an engaging and enjoyable driving experience? I don’t think I have to even answer this one, it’s a Hyundai after all. The Grand i10 has a straight-forward and enjoyable feel behind the wheel. This is due to many contributing factors but one I want to mention is the reinforced body- high-tensile steel stabilises this little enthusiast with 29-percent.
