Haval H1

Blog Single
ONE of a kind
Haval is renowned for manufacturing stylish vehicles that won’t cost you an arm or a leg. The H1 is big enough to accommodate a medium-sized family comfortably without cramping anyone’s style and trendy enough for students to be proudly ferried around in it, too. Thanks to the Haval design team that has paid meticulous attention to detail, this SUV oozes enough style to fall under the hip and urban category.

The Concept
A versatile vehicle that will appeal to anyone, from trendy moms looking for safe transportation for their children, to cheeky students wanting to be the talk of the town. Five seats mean that it has an adequate amount of space for day-to-day driving too, with room in the back for the kids or your friends.

The Look
Height adjustable headlights are equipped, with daytime running lights for extra security. The floating-roof look, due to blacked-out c-pillars, contrasts with silver skid-plates and adds a sporty element. 16-inch alloy wheels provide a sassy stance while the demure grille announces the SUV’s branding in polished chrome and red. Nifty roof rails are also featured, which will come in handy for housing all the camping equipment when the times comes for a much-needed family break away. Funky body colours and smooth flowlines gives this crossover just enough attitude to stand out and conquer the urban jungle.

The Feel
Inside the H1 you will find a driver-centric dashboard that has all the bells and whistles neatly laid out for easy use. Premium cloth upholstery and good build quality are found in the cabin, and the silver dash accents help create a posh ambience overall. A relatively high seating position provides a good view of surroundings, too, and with slender pillars – as well as the necessary features to help navigate – the H1 is parking-lot friendly. There are also 310 litres of storage space in the boot, so it feels as useful as it is.

The Features
For the H1, Haval have added a basic infotainment setup with a radio, MP3, CD, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and an auxiliary input. The multi-functional steering wheel is able to access the radio, call connectivity and cruise control. Add in comfort features such as an air conditioning system and remote central locking for a pleasant and enjoyable journey. Haval knows that safety and security is a priority for each and every person, and for this reason they have included features such as dual front SRS airbags, ABS, EBD, rear park assist and ISOFIX child anchorage.

The Drive
The 1.5 VVT-I petrol engine can comfortably supply 69 kW of power and 130 Nm of torque. A fuel consumption figure of 7.2 litre per 100km is also added into the mix. The five-speed manual transmission is smooth to shift through, and although performance isn’t all that mighty (its top speed is a run-of-the-mill 170km/h), this is to be expected from an engine this size on a car in this segment. Still, it achieves what it needs to for everyday city driving. The steering is direct, transmission slick and overall drive smooth. We loved its practical, unfussed nature.
