Fi-go, go GO!

The youngest to the Ford family, the Figo, is a great vehicle for it falls in an attractive market segment. The good thing about this (for the buyer) is that the Figo offers a different option to this highly competitive market which means that the term value for money is certainly used frequently here and this means plenty of opportunity for the buyer to sweep in and find themselves a good buy.

The Concept

Available in 5 derivatives of which three are hatches and two sedans, the Figo offers versatility and multi functionality. It’s not bulky so I think it would appeal to students, young couples, retirees or even small families. Its affordability opens it up to a bigger market as well while its dependable and reliable nature will set buyers at ease knowing that they and their loved ones will always be safe on the road.

The Look

The first Figo had a lot of Fiesta vibes in terms of designing and after some editing the second generation has left its cocoon and has spread it pretty wings to fly into its own, individual look and persona. The Ford Figo is an adorable vehicle. It has a distinctive appeal to it with its shiny honeycomb grille and chrome trimmings around the fog lights. It travels on a set of 15-inch alloys that gives it a certain Ford flair on the road which is only enhanced with the stylish bumper and, exclusive to the Titanium derivative, automatic headlights. The rear received character and now also benefits from a set of fog lights. Overall, the design of the Figo is commendable and adorable at the same time- its drips with charm and appeal that is sure to steal plenty of South African hearts.

The Feel

For the price that you get it at, you would expect the Figo’s interior to be filled with hard plastics and scratchy fabrics (this is usual where manufacturers cut costs), but no. granted, the seat cladding isn’t the most fashionable, but it is comfortable and durable to allow longevity and decent road trips without you having to stop every other hour. The fascia is neatly laid out with all the necessary buttons conveniently placed within hand’s reach. The Figo impresses further with a reasonable amount of interior passenger space, enough so that 5 adults can enjoy the ride without discomfort. Luggage will also fit nicely into the 256-litre boot of the hatch and 456-litres for the sedan.

The Features

The 6.5-inch touchscreen Ford SYNC®3 infotainment system lets you listen to your favourite jams via 4 speakers. Connect with the vehicle through multiple different methods such as Bluetooth Connectivity, USB and iPod functionality. Furthermore, there is also hands-free phone, Voice Control and steering wheel mounted audio controls to ensure that you always have fun in the Figo!

We all know how hot our country can get but don’t worry because the Figo has electric air conditioning or if you prefer it a bit al-natural, there is also front power windows with driver one-touch down function and rear power windows with child lock. Airbags include driver, passenger, side and curtain and for additional peace of mind behind the wheel there is also ABS and a rear view camera. An engine immobiliser, perimeter anti-theft alarm, remote central locking, drive-away locking, power door locks and Ford MyKey can also be found in the vehicle for added protection.

The Drive

The Ford Figo has a little 1.5-litre engine, this is more than enough for city driving. It can generate 88kW of power and 150Nm of torque which, paired with the 5-speed manual transmission or 6-speed auto in the Figo Hatch Trend, guarantees you of a light and easy trip every time you get behind the wheel. A benefit from the frugal engine (and the vehicle’s lightweight frame) is that it has a remarkable average fuel consumption of 5.7-litres per 100km(as per the brochure), additional benefits of size of the Figo is the fact that the Figo is easy to manoeuvre and operate- its quick to park and zippy with overtaking. Overall it has all the makings to be an easy travelling companion which is probably why it’s so favoured on our roads.
