The small business partner
Available in single cab, double cab and minivan, the Changan has a multipurpose range of vehicles that are ready to tackle the labouring force and its demands. I had my pick at the double cab and was impressed by the vehicle considering its selling price. As one of the most affordable bakkies in South Africa, this vehicle doesn’t have many rivals but it also means you get a lot of value for your money (you won’t be spending much of it in any case).
The Changan is a versatile vehicle that will excel as a labourer and is perfect for a small to medium business owner. Being a double cab, it can transport four to five people at a time whether it be employees or quickly fetching the kiddies at school if mom is pressed for time.
It’s easy to see that this double cab is a hard worker, it has strict exterior features and carved lines to proclaim its durability. A set of fog lights complement the headlights with additional illumination and the iconic badge on the striped grille proclaim its proud heritage. The loading bay is visibly utility-centred and almost shouts ready to go. It’s also multifunctional and can operate as a quick family errand runner with its double cab label and capability. Overall the Changan is simple and clearly focused on practicality, but by no means is it unpleasant to the eye.
Hop inside this hard worker and you will find durable materials and a smartly laid out interior. Made for short city trips, the Changan will excel in and around town with comfortable seats and good visibility for the driver. It’s also quite spacious so if you’re in a pinch with a delivery and have to pick up the kids from school, you will be able to do so with this bakkie. What I like about this vehicle is the fact that it doesn’t have all the extravagant bells and whistles- it’s straightforward and clean cut, it serves its purpose of transporting loads and it does this proudly and with ease.
The Changan is shyly spec’ed to save you some money and we all know how much a small businesses can do with the extra cash. Don’t worry though, you can still listen to your favourite tunes via two speakers and you even get an auxiliary input thrown into the mix for convenient connectivity. Additional features to be found in the Changan and include air conditioning and heating, electric windows and in terms of safety you get a steering lock as well as central locking and remote key.
The Changan is able to generate 72kW of power and 119Nm of torque which is more than enough to haul small loads and to provide comfortable everyday driving. It has a fuel consumption of 7.2-litre per 100km which is rather impressive for a sturdy double cab and is powered by a 5 speed manual transmission you are guaranteed of relaxed trips.
Something to note about the Changan is its capability to accommodate cargo- the loading bay is able to fill easily this is due to the manner in which the sides can drop and the bed is rather low which means that you won’t have to strain yourself when lifting freight onto it. It can hold up to one ton of cargo and with over two meters of length space, it can house quite a bit which makes the Changan ideal for a woman on the move.
