Sleek and Sexy – an Ideal Festive Gift!

Together with the team from Lindsay Saker VW Edenvale, and Sales Manager Lynda Joynt, we welcomed the T-Cross a few months ago. With it’s stunning good looks and new-car appeal, the T-Cross fits into a segment that is really competitive for the South African market – and, while there are many other crossovers to compete with, it is funky and original, and would make a perfect Christmas present (hint hint)!

The Concept:

Based on the enigmatic VW Polo, the T-Cross was designed to be an in-between vehicle, somewhere between the larger, and very popular Tiguan, and the soon-to-be-released T-Roc. Think of vehicles like the Ford EcoSport and the Hyundai Creta…

The Looks:

Unlike anything in the current VW range, the T-Cross looks like a muscular Polo with some unique touches – a classy rear spoiler, broad taillight cluster-strip across the boot, solid, bold haunches and silver roof-rails. From the front there is a sense of aggressive strength, with a prominent grille that makes this vehicle really stand out. I also love the range of unique colours, including a really stunning sea-green, turquoise shade that is both feminine and fierce. The interior is equally unique! Hexagonal styling along the dash with splashes of colour make for a perfect, modern cabin.

The Feel:

Obviously taking a new vehicle for a spin is a big rush – even more so when it’s a never-before seen variant, such as this. It really feels unique – although the familiar VW steering wheel and little touches of design throughout the cabin provide a sense of comfort, there is the thrill of something new! I loved the bright, airy cabin and the added bonus of driving a vehicle that makes heads turn.

The Features:

LED headlights, wireless charging, 4 USB ports and a superb sound-system are part of the package; there is also a range of wheel options (16 – 18 inches) and a new feature, the VW Connect Dataplug – the idea is to create an interface between your smartphone and your vehicle to share data, driving figures and fuel efficiency information – it will replace the current My VW App and be rolled out in 2020. Important features that are included on the T-Cross include rear-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, proactive occupant protection, blind-spot detection and hill start assist, to name but a few.

The Drive:

Four models exist in the range, with two still to be launched in South Africa. The existing options include either a Comfortline or Highline variant, with the R-Line to be released soon. Currently, the Comfortline is available is a 70-kW producing TSO, or an 85 kW TSI on the Highline, which features a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The added bonus of having an effective 1.0-litre petrol engine is the 4.9-litre per 100-kilometre fuel consumption, which is always a blessing in our economic climate. The two available models at present range between R334 600 and R365 000 in price, and are worth every penny!
