Ideal Family Road Trip Companion

It’s the festive season, and many of us are looking forward to spending time away with our families – traditionally, the family roadtrip down to the coast or to visit grandparents over this joyous time requires a great deal of packing and planning. And, for those with mid-sized families, there’s always the issue of travel. Well, with the magnificent Jeep Cherokee on hand, extended drive time is not just easy and comfortable, it’s also safe. Grand Central Motors Midrand have great confidence in their product, and together with Dealer Principal like Candice McKenna, wishes you a wonderful season of celebration.

The Concept:

A brilliant off-roader that will also serve as a supreme family SUV, ideal for roadtrips and fun festive adventures.

The Looks:

So, this is the Jeep you will instantly be able to identify from other Jeep models on the road – the long grille slats have been streamlined somewhat on the Cherokee, and with slim slits for headlamps, really makes for a modern, eager and thrilling look from the front. The rear is also very modern for a Jeep – sleek lines, slender taillamps and a prominent Jeep logo make for a very sexy SUV look overall. The interior follows suit – beautifully appointed with detailed design wherever you look.

The Feel:

High quality materials have been used throughout the cabin, and with leather seats that are both supportive and comfortable, long journeys will be a breeze for both the driver and passengers. There is also so much headroom and leg room that even for taller passengers, the cabin will feel roomy. The back seat will do well for three adults across, although for long trips I suggest sticking to only two. The back seat can also be moved back for a tad more space, and overall the impression that I get is proper SUV-like comfort!

The Features:

Even the base model Cherokee comes fitted with extensive standard features – a five-star Euro NCAP rating was awarded for seven airbags, rollover mitigation, ABS with off-road calibration, forward collision warning, lane departure assist and blind-spot monitoring. Blind spot monitoring is also a feature equipped from the base model onwards, as well as front and rear part distance control. Infotainment is also quite comprehensive, with Bluetooth, USB and Aux inputs, on-board navigation and dual-zone climate control – all controlled by the user-friendly touch screen. On the top-end model, there is also a superb entertainment system included.

The Drive:

Under the bonnet, a 3.2-litre V6 Pentastar engine is equipped that produces 200 kW of power and 315 Nm of torque – it uses a nine-speed automatic transmission that is silky-smooth and barely noticeable in its changes. I love that there is minimal lag at take-off, and that it also slips into economy mode on the highway by ensuring quicker upshifts. The highlight of driving a Jeep for me is always the extreme comfort in the cabin – no matter what terrain you are on, the cabin is quiet and comfortable with minimal bumps and jostles being felt inside.
