When Adventure Calls – You Answer

When you hear the name Isuzu, most people picture hard-working bakkies and trucks – not as many people know about the magnificent SUV this brand has to offer you. Shane Naidoo and his team from Barloworld Isuzu are eager to show you the magnificent MU-X, with its affordable starting price of only R593,900.

The Concept:

A full sized seven-seater SUV, the MU-X is ideal for carrying your family – whether it’s daily school runs, family vacations, or the tough African terrain on longer road trips – the MU-X has you covered!

The Looks:

This is a bold, sturdy and solid looking vehicle, with a robust stance that is commanding in presence. Still, there is a sophistication to its clean lines and pleasing curves, and – as Isuzu note – designers have done an excellent job of blurring the line between city and bush. The interior offers a haven of comfort and class, with leather on most surfaces. Three rows of seats can be used for your precious cargo or stowed away to stack even more in the back.

The Feel:

This is a vehicle that oozes space and comfort, and I love the high seating position behind the wheel. Front buckets seats cradle you as the driver or front passenger, and you can adjust your seat six-ways for optimal visibility. Automatic climate control with rear-cabin cooling vents ensure you will feel at home in even the hottest African landscapes.

The Features:

Like most of the vehicles in this segment, the MU-X has come to the party with features to keep passengers happy. Heated and folding side mirrors, cruise control, a user-friendly touchscreen infotainment system – and Apply CarPlay and Android Auto integration – mean this SUV is not short on necessities. Safety systems include ABS/EBD, hill descent and hill start assist, six airbags and stability control. The leather seats with quality stitching deserve a mention again for how comfortably they seat seven people.

The Drive:

The MU-X has a sixteen-valve, 3.0-litre engine that is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox in its 4X2 configuration. It produces 130 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque and is more than capable of pulling a 3 000 kg trailer or caravan.  Although it doesn’t race off the line, it is confident and assertive when you floor the accelerator, and offers a really supple, smooth ride – even over cobble stones or loose gravel. Sufficient ground clearance to take on marginally harsh terrain make this an ideal all-rounder for your family adventures to the Kruger National Park!

The Score:

We love the practical, comfortable and versatile MU-X and score it 8 crowns out of 10.
